Tentoonstelling 1914 - '18, de Slag om de Noordzee

HMS Vindictive - @Tomas Termote + Carl Decaluwé

De gouverneur gaf tijdens een persconferentie in London een toelichting over de tentoonstelling ter gelegenheid van 100 jaar Raid op Zeebrugge. Hij deed dit samen met Nic Van der Marliere, algemeen afgevaardigde van de Vlaamse Regering in Londen, die de herdenkingsplechtigheden presenteerde. De Raid op Zeebrugge was een van de belangrijkste militaire operaties uitgevoerd door de Royal Navy en de Royal Marines tijdens de eerste wereldoorlog (WWI).

Op de opening van de tentoonstelling op 20 april zal Randolph Churchill, achterkleinzoon van Sir Winston Churchill aanwezig zijn. Verder zullen ook Nicholas Jellicoe, kleinzoon van admiraal Sir John Jellicoe en Reinhard Scheer-Hennings, achterkleinzoon van admiraal Reinhard Scheer een toelichting geven; twee grote opponenten op zee tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog en meer specifiek tijdens de zeeslag bij Jutland in 1916.
